An equation written in two variables is a relation. Ordered pairs that make a statement true when substituted into the equation are solutions of the equation. The x-values of each ordered pair in a solution set represent the domain. The y-values of each ordered pair in a solution set represent the range.
When equations are not written so that a variable is isolated on one side of the equal sign, solve for one variable.
